Sister Inah Canabarro Lucas, a soccer-loving nun from Brazil, has been recognized by the Guinness World Records as the oldest living person at the age of 116. The news came as a shock to her family, with her 84-year-old nephew telling the Associated Press that many didn’t think she would survive childhood.
Ethel May Caterham was born on August 21, 1909, in Shipton Bellinger, Hampshire. She has lived through two world wars, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the first Moon landings, the fall of the Berlin Wall, and six monarchs. She was the second youngest of eight children and one of her sisters also reached a century.
