Five people were on board the single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza, the Federal Aviation Administration told CNN. The agency said it will investigate the crash, which comes after a devastating midair collision in January and a string of plane crashes across the country.
Fire and medical crews are on the scene of the plane crash off of Airport Road near Brethren Village in Manheim Township. Shortly after 3:15 p.m. Lancaster County-Wide Communications dispatchers reported an aircraft had crashed near a parking lot of Brethren Village. Dispatchers reported that a small airplane as well as several cars had caught fire.
It avoided smashing into buildings by mere meters, but appears to have landed on top of cars. Footage posted to social media shows a wreckage burning fiercely amongst parked cars, with sections of the metalwork disintegrating. Nearby cars can also be seen blazing away, and the plane's tail appears to be propped up on vehicle.
