Trump plans to use the executive order to push for a ban on transgender women participating in Olympic events. Trump was joined at the White House signing ceremony by two outspoken right wing opponents of transgender rights: former college swimmer Riley Gaines and former ESPN host Sage Steele.
President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Wednesday that is aimed at prohibiting people who were assigned male at birth from participating in women’s sports. "With this executive order, the war on women's sports is over," Trump said in front of a group of supporters at the White House.
Speaking ahead of the signing, Trump said it was about "common sense," and that "we will defend the proud tradition of female athletes and we will not allow men to beat up, injure, and cheat our women and our girls. From now on, women’s sports will be only for women."
