A United Airlines flight preparing to depart from Houston to New York had to be evacuated after it caught fire during takeoff on Sunday 2 February. United Airlines flight UA1382, operated by an Airbus A319-100, was preparing to depart from Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) around 8.35am local time. The flight was to be a scheduled service to New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA). United Airlines Engine Fire Houston (IAH) During the takeoff roll on runway 15R, passengers saw smoke and flames emanating from the aircraft’s right wing. As a result, the takeoff was rejected at high speed and the aircraft was brought to a stop on the runway. Cabin crew then evacuated the aircraft via emergency slides and airstairs.
