Former Vice President Kamala Harris, in her first major public remarks since leaving the White House, criticized President Trump's tariff policies as "reckless," saying they pose the risk of taking the country into recession. "Some people are describing what's been happening in recent months as absolute chaos. And of course I understand why. It's certainly true of those tariffs. Tariffs that — as I predicted — are clearly inviting a recession," Harris said. She called it the "greatest man-made economic crisis in modern presidential history" and applauded Americans who are rallying against the tariffs, saying they will increase everyday costs and impact retirement accounts and small businesses.
Former Vice President Kamala Harris slammed President Trump's first 100 days in office in a speech Wednesday night, warning of a potential "constitutional crisis." "Now, I know tonight's event happens to coincide with the 100 days after the inauguration, and I'll leave to others to give a full accounting of what has happened so far," Harris said during her speech in San Francisco that ended shortly before midnight, Fox News reported. "But I will say this. Instead of the administration working to advance America's highest ideals, we are witnessing the wholesale abandonment of those ideals." She said that Americans are speaking up against Trump's actions, saying, “It is not OK to violate court orders. Not OK. Saying it is not OK to detain or disappear American citizens or anyone without due process.”
Harris spoke at an event hosted by Emerge America, a partisan nonprofit that recruits and trains Democratic women to run for office. The organization backed Harris in 2003 when she ran for San Francisco district attorney, which marked the start of her political career in California, and eventually, national politics. Harris went on to praise the courage demonstrated by people who speak out against the Trump administration’s alleged violations of court orders or its efforts to detain and deport U.S. citizens without due process. There have been a few instances of U.S. citizen children who were recently removed along with their parents believed to be illegal immigrants.
