Jim Tressel nominated as lieutenant governor to Gov. Mike DeWine

Tressel, 72, is best known as the national championship-winning head football coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes, but his post-football career has mostly focused on higher education. He was an administrator at the University of Akron and president of Youngstown State University, where he served from 2014 to 2023. During his coaching career, Tressel was nicknamed “the Senator.” If the Ohio Senate confirms DeWine’s nomination, he will take a formal elected official’s title for the first time.
