Israel says Hamas has agreed to release three Israeli hostages

Hamas plans to release three Israeli hostages on Thursday, including two women and an 80-year-old man, as well as five Thai nationals abducted during the Oct. 7, 2023 attack. The Hostages Families Forum said it had received news that Hamas will release the eight abductees. The forum is a volunteer-based group formed by the families of the abductees after the attack. Among those the militant group plans to release is Arbel Yehoud, 29, whom Israeli officials had expected to be freed last weekend in the first phase of the ceasefire deal, in which a total of 33 hostages are expected to be released. The other two Israelis expected to be released are Agam Berger, 20, and Gadi Moses, 80.

Hamas will free 3 Israelis and 5 Thais in next hostage release Thursday

Hamas will release three Israelis, including two women and an 80-year-old man, as well as five Thai nationals during the next hostage release, slated for Thursday, officials from Israel and Hamas said as a tenuous ceasefire between the sides moves ahead. The officials named the Israeli women as Arbel Yehoud, 29, Agam Berger, 19, and the man as Gadi Moses, 80. The officials, who spoke on Wednesday on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media, said the hostages’ families had approved the publication of their names. The identities of the Thai nationals were not immediately known. A number of foreign workers were taken captive along with dozens of Israeli civilians and soldiers during Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023 attack that set off the war in Gaza.

3 Israelis, 5 Thai nationals to be freed from Hamas captivity Thursday — including IDF soldier Agam Berger

Berger, 19, Gadi Moses, 80 and Arbel Yehud, 29, will be freed during Thursday’s exchange, according to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office. Berger is the last female IDF soldier to be released after her four colleagues were freed last week. Hamas’ failure to release all civilian female hostages before freeing the soldiers had threatened to sink the breakthrough cease-fire deal. Officials were expecting Yehud, a civilian, to be released last week. Yehud’s extended captivity led the Israeli military to stop Palestinians from returning to war-torn northern Gaza until Hamas agreed to release more hostages than originally planned this week.
