The airline said Spirit Flight 259 had taken off from Dallas just after 2 p.m. local time and had to land at Jacksonville International Airport just after 3:50 p.m. due to a battery fire that originated in an overhead bin, NBC affiliate WTLV in Jacksonville reported.
The airline provided refunds and vouchers to passengers, and arranged for ground transportation to Orlando.
According to a spokesperson for the Federal Aviation Administration, Spirit Airlines Flight 259 landed safely at Jacksonville International Airport in Florida on Wednesday afternoon at around 2 p.m. after being diverted off of its original route to Orlando International Airport.
