The Israeli military operation across several West Bank cities has displaced roughly 40,000 Palestinians from their homes, in what experts say is the biggest displacement of civilians in the territory since the Arab-Israeli war of 1967.
Israeli tanks have entered the occupied West Bank for the first time since 2002, as observed in Jenin, where troops will remain for the coming year according to Defense Minister Israel Katz.
The Israel Defense Forces confirmed Sunday that it has deployed tanks to the West Bank as it expands counter-terrorism operations in Jenin. It’s part of a major offensive in the northern West Bank that has been underway since Jan. 21, dubbed Operation Iron Wall. The IDF said it sent three tanks into the area, according to The Times of Israel.
