George Pickens trade details: Steelers send WR to Cowboys for draft picks

The Cowboys finalized a trade to acquire wide receiver George Pickens from the Pittsburgh Steelers. Pickens, 24, was a second-round pick by the Steelers in the 2022 NFL Draft and quickly developed into a strong starter for the team. He averaged 16.3 yards per reception during his three years with the Steelers and made 59 catches for 900 yards and three touchdowns during the 2024 season. However, Pickens was set to be a free agent following the 2025 NFL season and caused the Steelers some headaches with his on-field antics. Mike Tomlin said after Pickens was called for multiple unsportsmanlike conduct penalties against the Cincinnati Bengals in December the receiver needed to "grow up in a hurry."

Cowboys reach trade for Steelers WR Pickens

The Dallas Cowboys' search for a No. 2 wide receiver opposite Pro Bowler CeeDee Lamb has landed them George Pickens. The Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers agreed to a trade Wednesday that will send Pickens to Dallas for a 2026 third-round pick. The Cowboys will also send a 2027 fifth-round pick to the Steelers and get back a 2026 sixth-round pick. Three weeks ago, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones hinted the club was working on "substantive trades" involving players that could be completed before or after the NFL draft.

Steelers trading George Pickens to Cowboys in NFL blockbuster

Dallas is acquiring George Pickens and a 2026 sixth-round draft pick from the Steelers in exchange for a 2026 third-round pick and a fifth-rounder in 2027, according to ESPN. Pickens, 24, is entering the final year of his rookie deal. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones recently said “the train had not left the station” in the team’s attempt to find a wideout that could truly form a dynamic combination with Lamb. Jalen Tolbert had the second-most receiving yards on the team last year with 610, and Lamb has not had a true No. 2 alongside him since the 2021 when he paired with Amari Cooper. In Pickens, the Cowboys land a talented receiver who endured some bumps in Pittsburgh. The 2022 second-round pick has tallied at least 800 yards in each season of his career, including a career-high 1,140 yards in 2023 and a 900 this past season in 14 games.
