Canada and the US already partner on the North American Aerospace Defense Command, also known as NORAD - a system that is responsible for aerospace and maritime surveillance, warning and defence of the region, and that can detect and shoot down cruise missiles.
U.S. President Donald Trump said Tuesday that Canada has asked for protection under his planned “Golden Dome” missile defence system.
Initial funding for the project is embedded in a massive bill currently making its way through Congress — the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” which, if passed, would kick-start Golden Dome work with $25 billion.
