Sentiment dropped 8.4 percent from March to April. Current economic conditions dropped a “modest” 6.3 percent, while expectation fell by just more than 10 percent. The Federal Reserve expects inflation to top out at 2.7 percent this year and to subside to 2.2 percent next year.

US consumer sentiment and expectations fall again in April as tariff uncertainty continues
The University of Michigan Surveys of Consumers announced Friday its Consumer Sentiment Index stands at 52.2. The Index of Expectations fell to 47.3 this month, down from 52.6 in March. Expectations have fallen 32% since January, the steepest three-month percentage decline seen since the 1990 recession.
