Trump to swear in Jeanine Pirro as top prosecutor in DC

Former Fox News host Jeanine Pirro vowed to improve safety and address violence in the nation's capital when she was sworn in Wednesday as the interim U.S. attorney for D.C. Referencing her experience as a judge and prosecutor, Pirro said as the top federal prosecutor in D.C. she will take on violence in the city that President Donald Trump has called unsafe and dangerous. "Violence will be addressed directly with the appropriate punishment, and this city will again become a shining city on the hill in an America that President Trump has promised to make great again and will make safe again," Pirro, a Trump ally, said in the Oval Office.

Pirro vows ‘justice will be honored’ in DC as new US attorney

President Trump on Wednesday conducted a ceremonial swearing in for Jeanine Pirro, who vowed to return Washington to a “shining city on a hill” in her role as the District’s top prosecutor. Trump selected Pirro to serve as U.S. attorney for Washington after his initial pick, Ed Martin, saw his nomination run into GOP opposition over his previous comments about the 2021 attack on the Capitol. During Wednesday’s ceremony in the Oval Office, Trump noted he’s known Pirro “for a long time.” “Over five decades, Jeanine Pirro, known by millions as ‘Judge Jeanine,’ has devoted her life to the pursuit of justice, the defense of freedom, and the fair, equal and impartial rule of law. And that’s what she’s about,” Trump said.

Jeanine Pirro sworn in as D.C.’s top prosecutor

Jeanine Pirro took the oath of office as the interim U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia during an Oval Office ceremony Wednesday, making her the latest Fox News host to jump to the White House. President Trump earlier this month tapped Ms. Pirro, a former judge and prosecutor, who most recently hosted “The Five” on Fox News, to replace his earlier pick, Ed Martin. Republican senators had voiced opposition to Mr. Martin — who had served as interim U.S. attorney for Washington — because of his defense of those who rioted at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, and inflammatory rhetoric around the attack. Mr. Martin moved over to the Office of the Pardon Attorney. Mr. Trump hailed Ms. Pirro as a prosecutor who will pursue justice, defend freedom and support the “fair, equal and impartial rule of law.”
