At least six people were hospitalized after the police responded to a shooting at the student union building on the campus of Florida State University in Tallahassee on Thursday, officials said. One person was taken into custody, according to the police, and the university said the threat had been “neutralized.” The Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare system said it had received six patients: one in critical condition and five others in serious condition.
“The President has been briefed on the shooting at Florida State University and the White House is actively monitoring the situation," White House Press Secretery Karoline Leavitt said in a statement.
As evacuations were carried out, images showed concerned students and faculty trying to call loved ones on campus, and Florida State University said Thursday afternoon that all classes and events were cancelled for the day.
