His former colleagues say his background managing high-profile, politically charged congressional investigations, his time as a federal prosecutor in Chicago and his time working at the Justice Department all helped prepare him for the complex interplay between the White House, Department of Justice and Congress that he is sure to face as White House counsel.

President Biden on Tuesday named Ed Siskel as the new White House counsel, tapping the former Obama administration official for the role as the White House faces GOP investigations and legal challenges to multiple policies.

Biden’s White House Counsel’s office has largely dismissed the Republican investigations into the Biden family, with office spokesperson Ian Sams comparing the whistleblowers who testified before the House Oversight to characters from “Dumb and Dumber” and denouncing the investigation as a “wild goose chase.”
