Travis Kelce contemplates future in first media appearance since Chiefs’ Super Bowl LIX loss

Travis’ brother, Jason, went through a similar experience at the end of his career. Five seasons after helping secure Philadelphia’s first-ever Super Bowl, Jason lost Super Bowl LVII to Travis and the Chiefs in his 12th year. While Kelce elected to return to Philadelphia on a one-year contract, he eventually announced his retirement weeks after their wild-card loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2023. “It sucks when you get to this point in the career,” Jason said in response to his brother’s thoughts on retirement. “It becomes harder and harder to do it. I think there’s a physicality that becomes more difficult to manage. There’s a mental approach that becomes more difficult to manage because a lot of times, it’s stocked on top of the physical discomfort and things that are happening.” Falling shy of the three-peat, Travis and Jason both addressed just how hard it is to keep a championship-caliber team together. Before thanking his teammates and coaches, Travis acknowledged that it would likely be his last time playing with most of this year’s Super Bowl team regardless of retirement status.
