"Some authoritarian regimes have stolen and used AI to strengthen their military intelligence and surveillance capabilities, capture foreign data and create propaganda to undermine other nations' national security," he said at France's AI Action Summit in Paris. "I want to be clear, this administration will block such efforts. Full stop." Vance also expressed opposition to excessive regulation, stating, "We believe that excessive regulation of the AI sector could kill a transformative industry just as it's taking off," and emphasized the need for pro-growth AI policies. He further committed to ensuring that American AI remains free of "ideological bias" and protects citizens' right to free speech, stating, "The Trump administration will ensure that AI systems developed in America are free from ideological bias and never restrict our citizens' right to free speech." Vance is on his first international trip as vice president, meeting with global leaders including French President Macron, Indian Prime Minister Modi, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
