Despite allegations he’s faced since being announced as Trump’s pick for defense secretary, Hegseth managed to convince enough GOP senators he’s the man for the job.

14m agoAlmost the entire Republican conference supported Hegseth’s nomination while every Senate Democrat voted against his confirmation, resulting in a 50-50 vote. Three Republican senators – Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska – opposed Hegseth’s nomination. Collins and Murkowski had earlier cited concerns about his personal history and inexperience as disqualifying.
Iraq War veteran and former Fox News Host Pete Hegseth was confirmed as the next defense secretary by a narrow, partisan margin Friday, allowing the divisive nominee to assume leadership of Pentagon operations early next week.
This marks one of the few times since 1975 that a defense secretary nominee has received fewer than 90 votes, reported The New York Times, with the last time being in 2013 when President Barack Obama’s nominee Chuck Hagel received 58 yes votes. “I thought I was done voting in the senate,” quipped Vance on his X account, referring to his formerly being a U.S. senator representing Ohio.
