Ábrego García is being detained in the notorious Cecot mega-prison in El Salvador, after being mistakenly sent there by the Trump administration. He met with Van Hollen yesterday, seemingly in a restaurant - the first time he had been seen publicly since the deportation in March. Van Hollen is just one of many campaigning for his release and return to the United States. Meanwhile, Trump and his administration are doubling down on Ábrego García's detention, alleging that he is a member of the violent Salvadoran MS-13 gang.

Sen. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., said on Friday that the margaritas seen on the table during his meeting with Kilmar Abrego Garcia in El Salvador were placed there by someone with the government.

Van Hollen traveled to El Salvador to try and secure the release of Abrego Garcia, who the Trump administration has accused of being an MS-13 member. Abrego Garcia was sent to an El Salvador prison by the Trump administration in March despite an immigration court order preventing his deportation.
