Cincinnati Father Kills Deputy Day After Police Fatally Shoot His Son

Father charged with killing deputy a day after police killed son

Police allege that a father hit and killed a sheriff's deputy with a car, a day after his 18-year-old son was gunned down by officers. Rodney Hinton Jr, 38, from Ohio, is charged with aggravated murder and is being held without bond. The alleged attack came hours after he watched police footage of the fatal encounter with his son, lawyers for the Hinton family say. Cincinnati's police chief said "there is a connection" between the two cases, although there has been no suggestion that the father knew the deputy who died.

What we know about the killings of a Cincinnati deputy and an 18-year-old who was shot by police

On Thursday, city police fatally shot an armed 18-year-old as he ran from them, and the next day long-serving sheriff’s deputy Larry Henderson was hit and killed by a car that authorities say was driven by the young man’s grieving father. The father, 38-year-old Rodney Hinton Jr., is charged with aggravated murder, but neither police nor an attorney representing his family have disclosed any motivation behind his alleged targeting of the deputy. Questions also remain in the police shooting death of 18-year-old Ryan Hinton. The Cincinnati Police Department says he appeared to point a gun at an officer while fleeing Thursday, but the officer’s body camera footage does not clearly capture the moment.
