iPhone Users Report Speech-to-Text Bug That Autocorrects the Word 'Racist' to 'Trump'

IPhone Dictation Feature Transcribes the Word ‘Racist’ as ‘Trump’

The issue appeared to begin after an update to Apple’s servers, said John Burkey, the founder of Wonderrush.ai, an artificial intelligence start-up, and a former member of Apple’s Siri team who is still in regular contact with the team. But he said that it was unlikely that the data that Apple has collected for its artificial intelligence offerings was causing the problem, and the word correcting itself was likely an indication that the issue was not just technical. Instead, he said, there was probably software code somewhere on Apple’s systems that caused iPhones to write the word “Trump” when someone said “racist.” “This smells like a serious prank,” Mr. Burkey said. “The only question is: Did someone slip this into the data or slip into the code?”

iPhones are replacing 'Trump' with 'racist' during dictation – but Apple is fixing the problem

iPhone owners have noticed a peculiar bug in recent days: "Trump" autocorrects to "racist" when using speech-to-text dictation mode. According to Apple, it's a problem with "phonetic overlap", and a fix is already in the works. After TikTok videos of the slip went viral, Apple provided a statement to The Guardian and others, blaming "phonetic overlap" between the two words: "We are aware of an issue with the speech recognition model that powers Dictation, and we are rolling out a fix as soon as possible," a spokesperson said. While many people were able to recreate the blip, it didn't happen every time – and the text seemed to revert back to "Trump" after a short delay. The latest reports online suggest Apple's fix has already taken effect, so you might not see it happening any more.

Apple Hates MAGA: iPhone Voice-to-Text Sometimes Displays 'Trump' When Users Say 'Racist'

Apple iPhone owners are recording videos of themselves using Apple’s voice-to-text feature, demonstrating that the smartphone briefly flashes “Trump” before switching back to the correct word they they say the word “racist” into the microphone. This is widespread and confirmed on multiple personal devices by Breitbart News. While the smartphone did not display “Trump” every time “racist” was said using the device’s voice-to-text feature in the above sample video, it did show the 45th and 47th president’s surname three out of five times the iPhone user said the word “racist.” On Tuesday afternoon, Breitbart News was able to replicate the issue several times, seeing “Trump” flash briefly when “racist” was spoken into Apple’s voice-to-text tool, before eventually switching back to the correct word.
