A divided Supreme Court on Friday said the Trump administration doesn’t have to keep paying teacher training grants while states challenge the Education Department’s decision in February to cancel them.

Justice Kagan argued that the Court was acting hastily without fully considering the merits of the case, and that the states had demonstrated that the loss of funding would cause significant harm to teacher training programs.

The Supreme Court on Friday allowed the Trump administration to terminate Education Department grants for teacher training that officials deemed to violate their new policy opposing diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.
