Wisconsin voters approve referendum question, voter ID law now part of state constitution

Republicans placed the question on the ballot in hopes of protecting the law from being overturned by a liberal-controlled state Supreme Court. While the court does not currently have a case challenging voter ID, it will now be much harder for justices to declare the law unconstitutional in the future.

Wisconsin passes ballot measure requiring photo ID to vote

Wisconsin voters were projected to pass a ballot measure that amends the state Constitution to require photo identification in order to vote, according to Decision Desk HQ. Wisconsin lawmakers referred a ballot measure to voters that would mandate that “a qualified elector may not vote in any election unless the elector presents photographic identification issued by this state, by the federal government, by a federally recognized American Indian tribe or band in this state, or by a college or university in this state, that verifies the elector[s identity,” according to an explanation of the proposal.
